Challenge
The cataloging of scattered photographs of the Red Cross into a photobook later gave rise to a digital platform for documentary photography, allowing the recovery of the historical and social dimension of this institution of social and humanitarian character.
The website aims to offer a new perspective on the Red Cross photographic archive, enabling its use by a larger number of people.
The “Red Cross Memories” project was initially developed through design thinking processes and Human-Centered Design and User-Centered Design approaches.
During the workshops with users, the three stages of Human-Centered Design were addressed: (re)defining priorities, ideating, and sustaining.
(Re)defining priorities
Defining the main objectives and identifying the problems to be solved, taking into account the people affected.
Ideating
Defining a persona as a profile of the person you want to help.
Sustaining
Usability testing, analysis, and resolution of potential problems arising from it.
The wireframes created were the starting point for the website design, which was adapted for various screen sizes.
With the aim of preserving the Red Cross archive and creating a stronger connection between volunteers from the Organization’s departments, the website offers a registration and login feature, allowing users to create a personal page to share photos of events they participated in at their local department or other volunteer experiences with the Red Cross.
On this page, each user can upload photographs and access the profiles of other volunteers around the world, enabling them to contact each other.
Usability tests took place between November 14, 2021, and March 3, 2022, with several sessions to allow for continuous improvements. Twenty-two volunteers from the Red Cross Organization participated. These stakeholders, in addition to fitting the target audience, were not yet familiar with the project, which allowed for credible and relevant results.
During the tests, six participants suggested improvements to the website. The remaining participants did not suggest any further improvements to the website.
